What's it All About?Hey Folks... thanks for stopping by! This site has been developed for several different reasons, mainly to promote country music in NYC and the surrounding area, but also as a home for all country music fans living in the NYC and the surrounding area that want to voice their opinions and thoughts about the fact that country radio does not exist in these parts! I have spent the last few years researching why the most diverse city in the nation has everything you can think of under the sun, except a country radio station... Now, I know some people would say, "who cares? There is always satellite radio, but a lot of people do not realize, without having country radio to promote and sponsor artists to perform in the area, guess what? They won't come! Every year, we go down to Nashville for the Country Music Festival (which, by the way, is the most amazing time ever, and I recommend it to anyone), and every year when we meet some of the artists we say, "when are you guys coming up to the New York City area? They all say the same exact thing, "we would love to, but you guys don't have country radio up there to promote us; therefore, no venues are interested." So I looked into why NYC does not have a country radio station and the answer is simple: MONEY. The last country radio station that was here years ago only came in third, which you and I would say, well that is not so bad, but to corporate suits, that is not good enough; therefore, they feel there is no market for country music in this area. Finally! The big country artists are getting occasional shows at Madison Square Garden and this this took years and years to happen. I have seen Kenny Chesney twice, Rascal Flatts, and Keith Urban (the most amazing artist ever...lol). The seats were filled, and the crowd was amazing, so how can anyone say there is no market in NYC for country music? The problem is, if you are not as big as these guys, the closest country artists come is PNC or Continental Arena in New Jersey. I would love for Brad Paisley, Miranda Lambert, Jason Aldean, Montgomery Gentry, etc., to perform at venues that are in the NYC and the surrounding areas. There are a ton of country music fans here. It was obvious to me when I was on the LIRR on the way in to see Kenny Chesney for the second time, and the car was packed with people with Cowboy hats, signing Kenny Chesney songs, talking about all their favorite country artists. All I could think about was if there are so many country fans, why don't we have country radio? It's like the land of forgotten country fans. Alright, I will admit it is an odd thing to see a person wearing a cowboy hat with the thickest Long Island accent you ever heard, lol, but we are out there and there were a ton of us on the train that day! I obviously cannot start a country music radio station, which I would love to do. But hey, funds are low, lol, so I figured maybe if I can develop a website that can reach out to other country music fans living in NYC and the surrounding areas, maybe we can make enough noise to either bring country radio back, which I realize is a tough task, or at the very least help promote country music, its artists (especially Mr. Keith Urban, The Man, The Myth, The Legend, lol) and local honky tonks (yes, there are a handful here, lol). If nothing else, make some new friends that are huge country music fans living in the most diverse city in the country, which has a radio station for every genre of music except country! It's like we are being punished, lol. So, folks, if you're with me, please help me promote... NYC PLAY SOMETHING COUNTRY! Thanks for taking the time to read my thoughts and thanks for checking out the site! Let me know what you think about this situation: |
